| Chemical contamination levels and stable isotope ratios provide integrated information about contaminant exposure, trophic position and also biological and environmental influences on marine organisms. By combining these approaches with otolith shape analyses, the aim of the present study was to document the spatial variability of Hg and PCB contamination of the European hake (Merluccius merluccius) in the French Mediterranean, hypothesizing that local contaminant sources, environmental conditions and biological specificities lead to site-specific contamination patterns. | A five-compartment steady-state food web model is proposed for the benthic food web leading to the dab. Three exposure pathways are considered in the description of accumulation by benthic animals: ingestion of particulate contaminants associated with either sediment or phytoplankton, and respiratory uptake of free dissolved contaminant in overlaying water. | Ce rapport de stage (2 mois et demi) traite du dosage de contaminants organiques, les Polychlorobiphényles (PCB) et les pesticides organochlorés chez les juvéniles de soles, dans différentes zones côtières de nourriceries sur le littoral français en Manche Est et dans le Golfe de Gascogne. Ces composés, hydrophobes, persistants et potentiellement bioaccumulables, se trouvent concentrés dans les tissus des poissons et en particulier dans le foie, riche en lipides. | L’étude ECUME était une opération destinée à tester localement dans les eaux côtières du littoral normand, des outils développés nationalement lors de nombreux travaux, et pressentis pour être utilisés lors des prochaines campagnes d’évaluation de la qualité chimique des masses d’eau littorales pour la DCE. Ceci afin de déterminer la méthode la plus adaptée et opérationnelle de les déployer, et comparer leurs résultats entre eux et par rapport aux connaissances actuelles des niveaux de contamination. Trois sites ont été choisis : Chausey, baie des Veys et estuaire de Seine. | Le PIREN-Seine s’intéresse à la présence dans le bassin versant de la Seine de contaminants d’origines agricole, industrielle et domestique depuis une vingtaine d’années. Ces polluants, qui se retrouvent parfois à des concentrations très faibles dans l’eau, peuvent avoir des impacts sur l’homme et l’environnement qui restent peu connus. La présence de ces substances toxiques suscite un intérêt majeur auprès des gestionnaires de la ressource comme des consommateurs. | Despite being generally located far from contamination sources, deep marine ecosystems are impacted by chemicals like PCB. The PCB contamination in five fish and shark species collected in the continental slope of the Gulf of Lions (NW Mediterranean Sea) was measured, with a special focus on intra- and interspecific variability and on the driving factors. Significant differences occurred between species.
